The new operation near Sieraków is being conducted under the Wronki licence, issued by the Polish Ministry of Environment. The Sieraków formation lies in close proximity to the largest oil and gas discovery in Poland, the Lubiatów-Międzychód-Grotów oil field. The target depth of the new Sieraków-3 vertical well is 3,320 metres, which will be drilled using a Bentec Euro Rig 450T, owned by Exalo Drilling S.A.
- The drilling work within the Wronki licence area started in 2011. The decision to drill another appraisal well in Sieraków was prompted chiefly by the positive results of the geological surveys undertaken so far. Reservoir volumes will be confirmed following more tests - said Wiesław Prugar, CEO of ORLEN Upstream.
If the drilling confirms the presence of commercial hydrocarbon accumulations, the project will proceed to the next stage, a field development plan, involving the tie-in of wells to the existing infrastructure of the LMG (Lubiatów-Międzychód-Grotów) oil and gas production facility. After that, further production wells will be drilled and surface infrastructure built.
ORLEN Upstream, the company dedicated to implementing PKN ORLEN’s strategy of oil and gas exploration and production, holds a 49% interest in the Sieraków project. This determines both their share in costs and in future revenue from oil and gas production. The remaining 51% interest is held by PGNiG.
