Last Friday, ORLEN Upstream began drilling works in the Lesser Poland region. The Lipinki-OU1 well is carried out as a part of the Karpaty project, which was added to the company's exploration and production project portfolio in 2015.
The drilling works in the municipality of Lipinki commenced on 30 September and will take around 50 days. The location of the well is covered by the Blok 435 (no 30/2013/p) license, as it is situated in Gorlice County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The expected measured depth of the Lipinki-OU1 well will reach 2100 meters.
The aim of the works carried out is to examine several geological formations located on various depths in terms of the presence of hydrocarbon accumulations, as well as to gain data to facilitate the geological structure of the region model creation and assessment of its potential. The central part of Outer Carpathians, where the Lipinki-OU1 well is located, has been known for its conventional hydrocarbon accumulations since the 19th century. Numerous oil and natural gas deposits have been discovered in this area over time.
"Each time, the decision on the location of drilling works is based on a complex analysis of geological data and economic modelling performed by a team of ORLEN Upstream specialists. The expansion of our portfolio of assets with projects dedicated, among others, to the Outer Carpathian region, is a result of the continuous development of the upstream sector within the PKN ORLEN", says Wiesław Prugar, President of the Management Board and CEO of ORLEN Upstream.
Currently, on Polish assets, PKN ORLEN is conducting exploration, appraisal and production works in 8 voivodeships, across the area of nearly 20 thousand km2. ORLEN Upstream continues working on all projects carried out under the licenses held by the company. Together with Polish Oil and Gas Comapny, it is finalising the works on joint development of the Karmin-1 well, located in an area governed by the Jarocin-Grabina license (no 16/2001/p), municipality of Dobrzyca, Pleszew County. The companies plan to commence production from this well before the end of 2016. Preparatory works are also ongoing on new appraisal and exploration wells scheduled to be drilled at the beginning of 2017
