The State Institute of Geology has not yet released any official estimate of potential recoverable shale gas reserves in Poland. This year the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) put Poland’s recoverable shale gas reserves as 5.3 trillion cubic meters – which is enough to cover some 300 years, at the present level of consumption. In Poland first exploration drilling for non-conventional gas was carried out by PGNiG [Polish Petroleum and Gas Mining] at Markowola in the Lublin region and by Canada’s Lane Energy at Łebień in the Pomerania region. There are plans for more drilling on other sites, from the Baltic coast towards south-east.
