ORLEN starts another fracturing procedure

27-11-2013

The ORLEN Upstream Team has started its second hydraulic fracturing procedure. This time the process is conducted in Niedźwiada Commune in the horizontal part of the Berejów-OU2K well, located within the framework of the Lubartów concession.

The procedure will be performed at the depth of over 2.5 km in the horizontal part of the well, in a selected interval of approximately 700 m. Well stimulation has been divided into seven fracturing sections and will last about a week. United Oilfield Services, Exalo Drilling, Halliburton, Veolia Usługi dla Środowiska [Veolia Services for the Environment] as well as the Oil and Gas Institute in Krakow have all been invited to cooperate.

Based on the adopted schedule of design works, we are methodically exploring the concession sites and comparing archival geological data with the newly obtained seismic and well test results. The analyses are intended to create a new geological model of Lublin and the Podlasie basins, which in turn will allow to decide on new locations for exploratory wells Wiesław Prugar, the President of the Management Board of ORLEN Upstream, emphasizes.

ORLEN Upstream has already drilled three exploratory wells within the Lubartów concession area. Two are located in Berejów, within Niedźwiada Commune. The first, vertical well with a depth of 2,613 m bgl, was drilled at the turn of 2011 and 2012. On the basis of obtained knowledge, a second well – this time a directional one – was drilled at the turn of 2012 and 2013. The hydraulic fracturing procedure in this well will end with a productivity test examining the flow of natural gas.

So far, ORLEN Upstream has performed a comprehensive package of seismic surveys together with interpretation as well as eight exploratory wells (six of the vertical and two of the horizontal type) in Poland. Currently, another exploratory well is being drilled in Kisielsk, Stoczek Łukowski Commune, under the Wodynie-Łuków concession.
