PKN ORLEN has spudded the next vertical exploratory well. The works are being carried out within the Commune of Stoczek Łukowski, Łuków County.
Stoczek-OU1 will be the Company’s ninth well under the "Wodynie-Łuków" concession, located on the border between the Lublin and Mazovia provinces, which was acquired from ExxonMobil in 2012. The decision on locating the well within the village of Kisielsk was taken based on an analysis of collected data and a number of local conditions. Within the preparatory work, consultation meetings were held for residents and the local government in September and October.
Drilling the Stoczek-OU 1 exploratory well will last approx. 50 days and has a planned target depth of 3070 metres. The exploration using a BENTEC 450T drilling rig aims to take core samples from perspective deposits. The results of the core material laboratory analysis will be the basis for further work conducted in this license area.
'Consequently, we are accomplishing the exploratory work program for the licenses we own. 'Stoczek OU1 is our first exploratory well in the Podlasie Basin, which differs in terms of geological structure from the Lublin Basin, where most of our exploratory works have been performed to date' - stated Wieslaw Prugar, President of the ORLEN Upstream Board.
PKN ORLEN owns 10 licenses for exploration and appraisal of hydrocarbon deposits in Poland. So far, the Company has drilled eight wells and performed the first full-scale hydraulic fracturing operation. Preparatory work is also currently under way for another fracturing operation in the village of Berejów (Niedźwiada Commune, Lubartów County).
