Explorations of the shale gas ended in Syczyn (Wierzbica district). Now, Orlen Upstream will move to Berejów (Niedżwiada district) where in a week it will commence the new drillings.
We will find out the results of the explorations in six months. The drilling of the vertical borehole in Syczyn took 42 days. “We took samples from over 2,5 km deep. Now we will have them analysed in the lab,” says Mr. Wiesław Prugar, President of the Management Board of Orlen Upstream. “The rock material from the Berejów site will also be given for testing. Based on the results, in 5-6 months we will take a decision about making horizontal boreholes in both these locations.
“I hope that next year the company will go back to Syczyn in order to continue the work. The success of the gas exploration would be an opportunity not only for the district but for the entire region,” says Andrzej Chrząstowski, district executive of the Wierzbica district.
The work in Berejów, Niedźwiada district, will commence in mid December. In total Orlen Upstream has eight licenses for oil and natural gas exploration in Poland. Six of them are located in our region (Bełżyce. Garwolin, Lubartów, Lublin, Wierzbica, Hrubieszów). The licenses cover both the resource from the conventional deposits as well as the unconventional, including the shale gas. At the beginning of November, the Regional Mining Office in Lublin inspected geological work in Syczyn. It turned out that the work site is properly secured. Also, there are no threats to the environment. Similar inspections will be conducted in Berejów.
