The Ministry of the Environment has issued its approval regarding the assignment of two licences held by ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Poland (ExxonMobil), to ORLEN Upstream. The Company is preparing to launch exploration activities in the new licence areas.
The Ministry of the Environment has granted clearance to applications for approval of a licence assignment which will finalise the agreement between ORLEN Upstream and ExxonMobil. The assignment involves two licence areas, Wodynie-Łuków and Wołomin, with a total area of 2 372 square kilometres.
The new licences will enable PKN ORLEN to expand its unconventional hydrocarbon exploration programme well into the Mazovia region. So far, the Company has drilled five wells (including three vertical and two horizontal) in the provinces of Lublin and Warsaw in its search for shale gas. Preparations are also underway to begin exploration in three other locations. The first well on one of the two newly acquired licences is likely to be drilled before the end of the year.
