There will be Drillings in Syczyn

17-10-2011  News

In the next few days in Syczyn PKN Orlen will start to make the first test well, out of the two planned for this year.

The decision about the location of the well was made after the analysis of archival and newly obtained geological data concerning these sites. The drillings will be made by the Czech MND Drilling & Services. Results of the seismic tests which were carried out in the first half of the year on the blocks covered by the license: Wierzbica and Lubartów turned out to be promising. In consequence, PKN Orlen decided to go ahead with the drilling. At present, the equipment which will start its operation in the last days of October is being assembled. At the end of November, right after the drilling is completed in the Wierzbica district, the personnel will move to the Niedźwiada district. The length of vertical test sections planned by Orlen will slightly exceed 3000 meters. “If the conclusions drawn from the tests are promising, in mid 2012 we will proceed with horizontal drillings both on the sites covered by the license in Wierzbica as well as in Lubartów,” announces Jacek Krawiec, President of PKN Orlen.

Orlen has eight licenses for the exploration of oil and natural gas in Poland. As much as six blocks covered by the licenses are located in the Lublin area (Bełżyce, Garwolin, Lubartów, Lublin, Wierzbica, Hrubieszów). The licenses apply both to hydrocarbons from conventional as well as unconventional deposits, including the shale gas.

On Friday, 14 October, a meeting with residents was held in Wierzbica. The representatives of Orlen presented details regarding the phases of the tests, drilling and extraction of the shale gas and the advantages that may be gained from the extraction of the resource for the Wierzbica district. The first test and exploratory drilling in Syczyn will start on Wednesday, 19 October.

“The project may contribute to economic and social activation of our region, improvement of the district budget and to the participation in the cost of road modernisation,” says Andrzej Chrząstowski, county executive of the Wierzbica district.
